Are you considering becoming an appraiser? If so or are just thinking about it, please follow the following steps to get there.

Step 1: Check the configuration of the State

Each state has its own assessment of the regulatory Board, which administers and regulates the licensing and certification of assessors.

For the most part, the pre-requisites must be relatively uniform, they are set by the Board of assessing qualifications or AQB Foundation evaluation.

On January 1, 2008, to become a certified appraiser residential, you will need:

aec Opening in 2000 experience
aec 90 hours of education
aec pass the exam

To become a certified residential appraiser, you'll need;

aec Opening in 2500 experience
aec 120 hours of instruction
aec pass the exam

To become a general assessment, you will:

aec Opening the 3000 experience
aec 180 hours of education
aec pass the exam

Step 2: Take the college courses required

New requirements from 1 January 2008 to become a certified residential appraiser may be satisfied with either one or more associates degree in any field of study or you can take 21 hours in specific areas.

To become a certified general appraiser, you will need a bachelor's degree or higher in any field or 30 hours in predetermined areas of study, including:

aec Principles of Economics (micro or macro)
aec Finance
aec Mathematics algebra, geometry, or more
aec Statistics
aec Computer Courses
aec Real Estate Business or Real

Step 3: compulsory Assessment

In addition to the required college courses, you will also be required to complete a basic program being evaluated in the following modules:


aec Basic principles of evaluation
aec The procedures for assessing basic
aec Residential Market Analysis
aec Optimal
aec National USPAP Course

Some places teach you the principles you'll need to succeed in your career. Others will simply take your money and you learn to pass the test of the state. Both are important, but learning principles well will be better for you in the long term. Keep this in mind when searching for your school evaluation.

Step 4: Find a Mentor

In previous state, with hours of training you are also required to have hours of experience. You'll find an appraiser who is a member in good standing in that form will sign on your work and mentor. Basically, you have to treat this as a job search and possibly an interview. And networking with as many people as possible.

Please bring something to the table that can help that business appraiser. Perhaps you have a client in mind that you can make to start to work.
