Bartending School

I live in San Diego ... considering going to a bartending school. Is it really worth it? I really hate to lose money if i cannot get a job aftewards. Thank you!

i bartender, and I would say no, it's not worth it. They may teach you something specific, like how to throw bottles, that's all. the rest you can easily teach you. and I do not know of any bars that force you to go to school for that. you just have to get a liquor license anywhere you work. and you do not even need to know how to make a crown and coke to get one. your liquor license is a responsible vendor permit, which means you have agreed not to serve someone who has already drunk, too drunk, obviously on drugs, and not used after hours if you live in a county restrictions. the best thing to do is get a book. save as much as you can. Just try to remember 2 drinks per day. I'll give you a short list of those you really need to know. make friends with a good bartender, and ask them to give you the recipes for their favorite photos and beverages, and ask him to teach you to "float" liquors. It's good to know. you need to know what kind of glasses to go in. All drinks and bartender, if you get a drink you've ever heard, just ask the customer what's in it. with women clients who do not know what they want to do something pink and fruity. it is so easy and fun. Yes waste of time to go buy a book and teach the drinks yourself. I went through a class. You really only remember the drinks you do most often. Maybe the class will give you a little confidence. I recommend that you lie on your application and say you have the experience and u'll catch in a week.
