What is the best choice for a calligraphy pen to address wedding invitation envelopes? I'm hand side wedding invitations and want to use a calligraphy pen to do so. I tried a few pens today and found they were too broad. One friend suggested calligraphy pens instead. I do not know anything about them and want more information. Bearing in mind that I am a total beginner with calligraphy, here are some of my questions:
- Which should I try? (Make and model)
- How a calligraphy pen, similar or different from an ordinary pen? Can I use a fountain pen that I already own?
- Online resources for the purchase of good calligraphy pens?
- Other resources calligraphy good for beginners?
Try to visit a stationary store right in your area. Most carry a good line of materials. You may not want to invest too heavily ($$$) if you do only one project.
Since you already have a pen, you will need to buy a new pen (if yours is replaceable).
The only difference between a pen and a standard is used for calligraphy pen. A standard writing pen has a very fine tip, which requires a large calligraphy tip. Think of the difference between a ball and a highlighter.
I tried everything, from the pen and ink reservoir of old fountain pens with different disposable calligraphy pens with equal success.
For modern papers, I prefer the least expensive. The ink will bleed in most papers If you use the old "dip" ink, or even most of the pens.
And remember, it is important that you always hold the pen in the same position (do not let the roller pen in hand) to obtain the gradient line widths that are so beautiful calligraphy!
