Esol TeacherWhat are the requirements for teachers of English?

So you think you have what it takes to be one of the many English language teachers around? You should know that English teachers are not all one type - there are differences between teachers of English (as in other professions.)

Types of Teachers of English

1. EFL - EFL teachers are English teachers who teach English as a foreign language.
2. ESL - Teachers in this category teach English as a second language.
3. ESOL - ESOL teachers teach English for speakers of other languages

As you can see, these three types of teachers have one thing in common: they are all interested in helping people trained in other languages (usually their mother tongue) are educated in English. This field of education can also be called by other acronyms (and terms), namely:

1. TESL - Teaching English as a second language.
2. TEFL - Teaching English as a foreign language.
3. ELT - teaching English.
4. TESOL - Teaching English to speakers of other languages.

You can see that the first three types of English teachers are just called by the other 4 names and acronyms - but their function is the same: to teach English to people who have a mother tongue other than English.

The field populated by teachers of English has increased in so many ways. On the one hand, English teachers may choose to obtain international accreditation to strengthen their powers - particularly if they intend to migrate to another country. A country that officially requires, for example, is Australia, which requires the potential English teachers to present the results of their TOEFL (yet another acronym to describe English teachers - it is for the Teaching English as a foreign language.)

Currently, there are two ways of coordination to subdivide the field of English teachers. For those English teachers, focusing on American English, they rely on the system of TESOL. English teachers who know English well opt for the UK ELT system. The country was once the U.S. territories (such as the Philippines) generally use American English, while countries that may have been under British rule in the past (like India) usually uses British English .

An English teacher must be aware of the characteristics of the English language so he or she may be better to teach it.

2. The consonant phonemes

5. The time of stress
