A massive 400 million pounds for development in the Thames Gateway area in Kent is to create thousands of new homes and jobs.

Work has begun on a project called 'The Bridge' is intended to create a new community on a site near the M25 Thames river crossing at Dartford in Kent, reports the BBC.

The developers planned to build 1,500 houses on the site and the new community should contribute a total of 7,500 jobs in the region.

As the project begins to take shape around 264 acres of derelict land will be transformed into housing, offices, schools, commercial complex, a zoo, lakes reclaimed and converted an open space.

The bridge project will be linked to Kent Thameside system of transport and Fastrack buses link Dartford, Bluewater, Greenhithe and Gravesend in north Kent.

The Thames Gateway area stretches 40 miles to the east and south-east London to parts of Kent and Essex.
