What causes a laptop USB port to no longer recognize flash drives? My daughter was using the shared notebook Acer with three USB ports visible. She was listening to a piece of music on Windows Media Player when the computer suddenly "disowned" the flash drive. It will also not recognize mine. Without replacing the notebook to its factory settings, is there another way for him to recognize the flash drive again??
I tried to update the driver, but it did not work.
I recently had USB problems related to surge on the USB port. I use Windows XP and reported the problem with pop-up message that says I need to remove the unit and reset the port (using the reset button on the pop-up) or the port would disabled. If you do not receive this message or closed, try going to Device Manager and make sure all USB ports are enabled. You may already be done when you update the driver.
restore your computer to an earlier date where it worked OK.
For XP.
