High School Musical BooksHigh School Course Planning

Homeschooling parents know better educate their children. Use what you know about your students and their learning styles and discuss topics that colleges want to see. Homeschooling high school is very effective and it is full time in the day to give your children an education that has the breadth and depth in a way that is meaningful to the student. Here is a list of courses that colleges in their search for candidates. As you read, think about how you can integrate these subjects in your school at home.

English
Colleges like to see four years of English. You can meet this requirement in a variety of ways. Your student can study literature and composition through a program developed, or you can simply read and write a lot each year. You may want to consider having a classroom discourse as an alternative. One year, one of my son wanted to Sonlight Language Arts, but the other wanted to use "learn to write the new way." I wanted to please everyone so we ended up doing everything! It is a strategy I do not recommend! Unless, of course, you actually enjoyed the pain of childbirth.

Try to keep in mind what really matters about this area called "English." You want to end up with young men and women who love reading, written communication, and how to learn. As long as they are these values and are increasingly on their ability, you succeed in your work!

Math
Colleges generally say they want three years of high school mathematics. They also say they want to see last year math student, so it is still fresh. In my mind, mathematics is such a cornerstone of so many other issues, careers, college majors and I think it is important to have four years of mathematics. It is less important what level of math they do every year. Colleges like to see children progress in their studies of mathematics, so just teach your students still at their level. It's great to finish the test before the PSAT geometry, and even better if they can complete Algebra 2 or pre-calculus before taking the test would be nice Sat complete pre-calculus or trigonometry before college, so that if the calculation that they need, they will be ready to take it a university. But in reality, as long as you "do the following," working on math at their level, you can not lose.

Studies
Colleges like to see three to four years of social studies. Often, colleges further specify what areas of social studies in particular they want to see. Usually this will result in world history, American history, the U.S. government and the economy. Remember that you are not limited to choosing classes "whereas" for social studies, whatever. In our family, a son has followed a course of Russian history and the other chose psychology. Now is a good time to mention that all classes have to involve testing. Sometimes you just have to "audit" a course like they do in college. That's how we used the Society of teaching conferences, the supplement of choice for social studies. They are college-level lectures on audio or video. My children loved and appreciated being taught as an adult.

Science
Three years of science is expected for college preparation, with at least one of these classes, including a laboratory. We used Apologia Biology, Chemistry, Physics and all had a laboratory component. Each science is so different that the child can really hate, but really love each other, it is useful to try to expose them to everyone. You can also extend in different disciplines: geology, astronomy, etc. Colleges love to see the unique course, do not be afraid to dive into another field of science, if your son or daughter is interested.

Foreign Languages
Many colleges require a foreigner.
