Luthier SchoolThe secret to maximizing your potential Guitars

Poorly setup guitars really play the guitar a bigger challenge. As if it is not an endless challenge itself. But why make it harder? As you probably know by know, the sooner you learn to play brings you more personal satisfaction and desire.

What "Setup guitar? Basically it means having the right requirements to actual factory standards or your personal specifications. In short, a set-up includes:
# 1. adjusting the height of the strings around the neck
# 2. sure that your frets are level or the same height all the way up the neck
# 3. intonation
# 4. adjust and lubricate all the other components in general.

The goal here is to help you have a guitar, you can play to its maximum potential. Hopefully, no one confused or using unusual terms that do not really mean anything to you. As a matter of interest, I have rarely dealt with a new guitar, especially Gibson Guitars, which are really badly set up the plant. Realistically, it is a real mystery why more time is spent setting up the guitar at the factory.

The Fender Squier line of guitars and seem to be the best guitar set-up of the plant, especially the artist and the series Custom Shop series, and they sometimes leave much to be desired. I do not really want to shoot any brand of guitar, this is not personal.

This being said leads me to the fact that every guitar shop guitar unpacks should be established before it is delivered or sold. Thanks to numerous conditions, it is not realistic for retailers of any type guitar set-up each guitar. With distributors profit levels are low guitar are saddled with, it is not economically feasible.

Regardless of whether new or used, once your guitar is properly set up and adjusted, you can not recognize it in how he plays and just as importantly, how it sounds a great time. It does not matter what your feelings are in terms of playability and tone, your mind will be changed and blown.

I was lucky, my teacher of many moons is not only a brilliant teacher, he is a bona fide guitar hero. He has 51 years of playing, including music education at Berklee School of Music. FYI, which is one of the two leading schools of music player in the world. Period. Richard Mac plays at a level achieved by guitarists like Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Eric Johnson and other players in this category, although clearly its own environment.

Back to the question, my score of Richard, other than teaching that I am a pretty good player (always getting better) is all about guitar set-up. He is sick of having each of his many guitars set-up before he even plays. Since I am his disciple, I set-up every guitar I own, upon their arrival. Believe it, I bought an Eric Clapton Custom Shop guitar a few years ago and put in place immediately. In fact, it has been well up the Fender Custom Shop, but she had to check and set-up perfect.

The fact is that if you buy a Mexican Standard Stratocaster and correctly configured, you have a guitar that plays as well as First American Standard four to six hundred dollars less. Same thing with an Epiphone guitar. Why buy a badly set-up Gibson Les Paul for a few thousand dollars when you buy an Epiphone guitar less than half that price and have a better playing and sounding guitar?

Move down to business. A guitar good set-up is less than one hundred dollars. Believe me, it's theft. A lot of work with precision tools expensive, in a set-up. Not to speak of love 'built by the person or guitar maker. I spent much of my life rebuilding automotive transmissions, and any person with knowledge, know they are precise and delicate. Guitars take the same delicate precision and time of my.
