Mead High School in Spokane, a legendary power distance running, has found a new way to win another title at the 2009 Washington State Track & Field Meet at Mount Tahoma Stadium, Tacoma (WA) to end May
The Panthers had just one individual champion, Keith Webber in the pole vault, but managed to score points in the hurdles and field events to earn 49 points and 4A high school title.
Bellarmine Sarah Hartwell, Shaquana Logan, Jacka Midori Starks and Kelly won the 4 x 100m and 4 x 200 relay, Jacka has also won the 200 and Logan won the 100 hurdles to make Bellarmine preparation of a title for the girls 4A 56 points.
In 3A boys competition, Andrew Kimpel led North Central to title by winning the 3,200 in 9:08.39. North Central Ben Johnson was second in 3200, and North Central finished 2-3-4 in 1600 with Kimpel, Leon Dean and Johnson. This is called the depth of distance, and led to a government security for Indians in Spokane.
Rainier Beach High School knocked the competition to win the 3A girls with 65 points. The Vikings' Dyneeca Adams won the 400 in 56.89, Ariele Reeves won the 300 hurdles in 43.60 and both Adams and Reeves joined Charnay Combs and Ta Pri Nelthrope won two 4 x 100m and 4 x 200 relay. The effort of 4 x 200 1:39.49 established a new state record.
Lynden define a new state record for the 4 x 400 boys competing to win 2A title with 45 points.
Grills 2A meet was freshman Cherish Morrison, Blaine. All Morrison did was win the 100, 200 and 400, a new state record in 400 with 57.28 and anchored winning 4 x 200 Blaine relay team. She was the only competitor among the six different divisions to win four events.
