Notebook BindersHow to write a reflection in a science notebook

Throughout your university career you will be presented to science many cources. Each course will have different requirements. However, most classes will require you to keep a science notebook or journal, especially when you are conducting research in the field or when completing a research project.

Journals

scientific journals, scientific notebooks also called, are tools of data collection. They are used to collect notes, data and observations of specific research projects, field trips or experiences. However, they can also be used for reflections and observations on professional development of a scientist.

Journal Entries

There are several types of journal entries that you can do. The newspaper is the most basic point of data entry. input data point are used to record specific information about an observation, such as temperature, size or response.

The second type of log that you can do is a journal of observation. This entry will "describe" something based on your point of view of this object. Input observation will describe things as colors, textures and positions of one or more objects.

The third type of paper that you can make a big consideration. An entry is a subjective reflection of your experiences. These entries are used to document a field experience or document what you think and feel about working on a research project.

How to create a place of reflection

There are several basic steps to write an entry for reflection. To begin, you must enter the identification data base. This includes the date of entry, time of entry and subject for entry, also called the subject or title of entry.

The next step is to create an explanation of why the entry is made. You can start by explaining what you do and then move on to what you're asked to make an entry in your logbook scientific thinking. For example, you might have heard something on the news that explains some conflicting data that you collected, or you've seen the extraordinary behavior of animals in the area that relates to something you are studying.

When writing an entry to reflect that you must provide both facts and feelings. The facts will be used to open your driveway while your feelings and observations will be presented in the middle of your driveway. Finally, you can confirm your entry with calls to action. For example, you can create a note you'll need to test a new solution ratio or you may need to make adjustments to the temperature of the test environment to see if it will produce the desired result.
