try to change the font used in Notepad.

I guess it is a problem with newlines in Windows and UNIX. The best is probably to throw the notebook for something more clever, it can analyze the files correctly, I personally recommend jEdit (www.jedit.org).

Alternatively, a search and replace should do the job, but will be Messier.

In this case, Windows 98 and Windows 95 INW. Do not remove these characters. Windows has been there for a reason. If you open your page in WordPad in Windows, you will see that we arent characters.
