What should my child know how to grasp a pen or a pencil? I was wondering what age is this ....... My son will be 3 next month, and his grip is most comfortable with his fist. Other times, he will hold it firmly propertly.
The provider of custody has pointed out to me, and I do not know if it comes to compare his writing skills to other children at daycare, or if it is really a normal range of when it will enter the right way every time?
His daycare provider said that it is best to get in the habit at an early age, so it does not become a difficult habit to break. She said that children who learn to write before learning to read earlier (and the idea is that learning to hold a pencil the right way .... will soon lead to a child who wrote more .... and early bed earlier .... you get the idea.
Just do not know how to push the idea, because I do not want him to rebel again and disable writing activities.
(PS I posted this question in "toddlers and preschoolers, but did not get many answers. Hope to get more input if it is displayed in Genenal parenting).
Yeah, they're right, try to settle it now, because it will become a habit. My son is 11 and he still can not hold a pencil correctly.
It gets a little frustrating, because it is very capable and intelligent. By the time I picked on him, presumably when he was about 7, it seems to be too late, as has already been used to operate this way.
I think that what you teach them when they are really young, will stick to it. Unfortunately, I did not concentrate so much on writing, before going to school. But I did learn to read, and it is now very good at it. I was the same, I learned to read, and I was very good at reading and spelling in school.
Fortunately my son writing has improved as he used to be terrible, but it could always hold pens or pencils in the wrong direction.
I do not think it's a big if they do not in the right direction, but obviously it does help. Give him lots of praise when he does do it correctly, and will probably be really encouraging.
Me do not really agree with them saying that the possibility to hold a pencil correctly, will lead them to be able to read or write earlier. I do not think this will impact on these skills. The only thing I experienced touching, writing is my son.
Start now, because they will learn to do things right before starting kindergarten. Preschool teaches them if they go to preschool, if not its up to you.
You can also call your elementary school and get a list of what they want children to know before entering school. It will give you a head start and help you if your child is not the "last" of learning.
I think you should not push at all. Let him take as he pleases. If he wants to keep it properly, it will be on his own time. I never hold the pencil right. I used to cry at school when they made me stand properly so they surrendered. I still have the right to hold a pencil, but I have a very neat handwriting. Some people develop there own way of writing. Encourage your son to do what feels comfortable for him.
I would push phonics and letter recognition on wrting practice. It's something they have much in Kinder and 1st grade on depnding school. You child can learn to re read a very young age, without knowing how to write again. Some children read at 3 or 4, I did, and I'm sure I could not really write yet.
My son will be 3 on July 5 and has autism and saw several therapists each week. Its color therapist with him. A few weeks ago she told me that he must start hold.
