St Joseph's School, Park Hill
History
In 1954, the Sisters of Mercy opened a private school for infants and juniors in their premises in Yorkshire Street, Burnley.
In 1957, the Sisters bought a house in Park Hill school premises have been built alongside. St Joseph's Convent School was inaugurated and blessed by the Right Reverend George Andrew Beck, Bishop of Salford Friday, December 13, 1957.
Strength to stength
As increasing numbers, two new classrooms were added in 1967.
Sister Mary Cecelia retired as a teacher in 1974 and was replaced by Sister Mary Clement. In 1982, the school celebrated its silver jubilee.
A new dining hall was built in 1993, the staircase of the convent has been removed and completely separated from the convent school.
Moving
In September 1995, Sister Mary Clement retired and was replaced by Sister Joan.
A club before and after the school was opened September 15, 1998.
On September 24, 2002, the nursery was open. Both Sir Simon Towneley and Mr. Peregrine Towneley were present. Mr. Peregrine performed the opening ceremony while Father blessed the nursery Lannon.
In June 2006, the school had its first ISA (Independent Schools Association), the inspection and received an outstanding report. Consequently the school was registered as a member of ISA schools.
