School Evacuation ProceduresCell phones in school - should they be allowed?

When cell phones first became popular, school administrators banned them from school premises due to the connection between these devices and illegal drug activity. Due to school shootings and the events of 9 / 11, the question arose again whether cell phones should be allowed in academia.

Many parents say that the devices should be permitted only if such an emergency occurs. They feel safer knowing that their children are a simple phone call. These adults also point out that one of the reasons that their kids have these phones is to enable them to have the opportunity to call for a ride home after school.

School administrators on the other hand argue that cell phones are more a convenience than a necessity and that these devices have no place in schools. These officials emphasized that the use of these phones are disruptive in class because students receive and respond to calls and text messages when they should be giving attention to the teacher.

Text messaging also creates problems in being a medium in which students can gossip about other children without fear of being heard. "Text messaging bullying" has also become a problem between the school authorities and users of cellular phones.

Thank you to another feature that is now available on mobile phones, these devices are now excluded from locker rooms because of the fact that some inappropriate images were taken illegally and posted on the Internet within the hour.

Another concern that many experts on the widespread use of mobile phones among children is the fact that these young people may be losing the basic skills. Speaking by phone or text messaging their friends, these children do not have the opportunity to talk to other young people standing in the lunch line or hanging in the hall. The ability to conduct communication in face-to-face is found to be seriously lacking in students who are cell phone users.

A compromise has been reached in many school districts. In these areas, students are allowed to have cell phones while they are shut off during school hours. This agreement allows teachers to have a classroom without disturbing while students still have the opportunity to call home during extracurricular activities. The directors also suggest that students have prepaid cell phone plans that limit the number of text messages that the child is allowed to send. These officials point out that if a student is allowed only three text messages a day, they are more likely to use them wisely and not as a means to intimidate or gossip.

In the case of a school shooting or other emergency, students may use cell phones and service lines overload can also cause interference with radio equipment that is used by police and other workers emergency. Mobile phone usage may interfere with the evacuation procedures as well. A child who speaks on a phone may miss important information that should be entrusted to them by school officials. In an emergency, it is preferable to consider whether school employees to make calls at all necessary while students carefully follow the instructions given to them.

Overall, the use of mobile phones by students is very good if such use is limited to appropriate times and places. Otherwise, these devices are not necessary in most academic environments.
