Special Education Teacher Job DescriptionWhat a special education teacher to do?

I am looking for jobs when I'm older and I love children. I want to be special education teacher, can you give me a description of what work is like, pay, and what sites to find jobs. If you know of a college that is good please let me know! Thank you!

A special education teacher is one who deals with children who have learning disabilities like dyslexia, dysgraphia and dyscalulia who are reading and writing the mathematical equivalent of the other. Other learning disabilities can be developmental delays, autism, ADD and AD HD or HD. These teachers have special training to deal with these issues, they work with these children in schools or public or private school for children with learning disabilities. You must have a master's degree in special education to teach Special Ed or have education credits in Special Ed if you have a master's degree in another field. You must obtain a bachelor's degree and get your master. So, including college will take about 6-8 years depending on the time it takes to get your masters.

It depends, because there is special education for children with severe mental disabilities and accelerated for children who just struggle in some subjects. I do not have much experience with anything other than what the work is similar, but I guess they are not paid much more than a regular teacher. There are many sites you can find salary information, Google is your friend (or Yahoo! If you are in this).

Work can be stressful, especially with children who are more "special". If you are looking for work SPED general, it is quite relaxed. Children are not really out of control, but if you are looking really mentally deficient children, be prepared to deal with screaming, shouting, and generally a very noisy classroom. Do not put right, it can be quiet sometimes. P

I teach a regular class of second graders. I think that teachers are angels sepcial ED. I thought I wanted to be a Special Ed teacher, but no more! At my school, Special Ed teachers are often frustrated by the enormous quantity of documents they are required to do so - not including grading or lesson planning. They must keep a detailed plan for each student. They spend a lot of test time and students to write reports (outside of their class work). (For your information, the Special Ed teachers take the kids in my class to work with them in small groups.)

Some teachers teach a Special Ed class of special ed children. I am sure he is quite different from what we have at my school.

My advice would be to find a teacher who does what you want to do and volunteers.
