MEANING OF SPECIAL EDUCATION:

            Special education means specially designed instruction that meets the special education and related needs of a child in need. It differs from regular education program for children not exceptional quality unusual, something extraordinary, remarkable. There is something special - special materials, techniques, special training, special equipment and special assistance and special facilities may be required for certain categories of children with special needs. For example,

• Visually impaired children may require the reading material in large print or Braille.
• Hearing impaired children may need a hearing aid, auditory training, lip reading, etc.
• Orthopedic disabled children may require wheelchairs, and the removal of architectural barriers
• Mentally retarded children may need skills training.

For example, the teaching of skills for self-help or training in reading and writing Braille is an important part of the curriculum for children with severe disabilities (blind) in special schools that is not in mainstream education, the school system dictates the program, but in the special education of children with individual needs dictate curriculum.
