MEANING OF SPECIAL EDUCATION:

            Special education means specially designed instruction that meets the special education and related needs of a child in need. It differs from regular education program for children not exceptional quality unusual, something extraordinary, remarkable. There is something special - special materials, techniques, special training, special equipment and special assistance and special facilities may be required for certain categories of children with special needs. For example,

  • Visually impaired children may require the reading material in large print or Braille.
  • Hearing impaired children may need a hearing aid, auditory training, lip reading, etc.
  • Orthopedic disabled children may require wheelchairs, and the removal of architectural barriers
  • Mentally retarded children may need skills training.
